Watch out Open Source world….B.o.B. has arrived!!!

Today we had our third team meeting during our class period. This meeting kicked off the beginning of our adventure this semester as we were able to select our project today. And the winner is….Banshee! Banshee is a media player/manager. It allows you to organize and play your audio and video files, sync to or import from devices such as Android, IPhone, Ipod, or other devices, listen to and rip CDs, as well as allowing you to access internet radio, podcasts, and other media providing web-services. Banshee is a cool piece of software that we are excited to be able to get the chance to contribute to.
Class began with the different groups getting up to explain their top three picks to the class. Each team’s number one pick was placed on the board. After all presented, only two teams had the same number one pick. Dr. Bowring thought it would be alright for these two teams to work on the same project as long as they coordinated, as it is a large project with plenty to do that could use some help.  Shaun volunteered to get up in front of the class and speak for us, he did a great job!
After all projects were presented by each group, we broke into our team meetings. In this meeting, we finalized our top selection, Banshee, and began to look into setting up the IRC. We were able to find the IRC server and channel information on Banshee’s website. We looked into several clients including XChat, Pidgin and Empathy. Unfortunately we were unable to get any of them to connect to the server. Brandon was able to connect to the server and channel the night before so we are not sure if has something to do with the school’s network or what. So we decided to try to set this up at home and get with each other on the results.
Well that sums the team meeting today…another post soon to come!

First Team Meeting

This is our official team blog page. Here we will post our experiences as a group as we move through our CSCI 462 project.

Therefore, our first post will be about our first "productive" team meeting. Our real first meeting just involved meeting each other and assigning team roles.

Thursday was our second meeting, but first real productive meeting. We came together as a group and went over the H/FOSS list of projects. We were able to narrow down to 6 projects for closer consideration. They can be viewed here. We collected some initial information on these projects to ensure they were newb-friendly projects, most on our list appear to be.

We ended the meeting with finalizing our list and agreeing to collect additional information and experience with these products individually. We will post our findings and thoughts on the team wiki. We will come together before our next class to choose our top three, although from the looks of others choices I don't think we will have a problem getting the one we want.
